Can you give us a brief overview of your professional background?

Basically, it is a financial background. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and then had positions in various companies. When I came to Australia in 1995, I had finance roles at State Government bodies including FESA (now DFES) when there was an opportunity to 'transfer' into the different area of emergency management.

What is your role at the OEM?

I am the Principal Coordinator of the Western Australia Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (WANDRRA) which are this State's form of the national measures designed to assist the community in recovering after a natural disaster.

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

Being able to assist those affected by a natural disaster, which due to its nature cannot be anticipated.

And the most challenging?

As the assistance measures are specific, it is difficult to try and explain why some assistance cannot be given.

Do you have a personal philosophy that has guided your career?

Being honest and open, even though it does not seem to be always appreciated!!!

How do you relax when you are not at work?

Basically sports, even though my playing days are behind me, I still follow rugby union and cricket where I am on the Umpires Appointment Committee.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you?

My wife and I are the only couple to have been married in the middle of the WACA.
